Gaggle.net / Internet privacy and respect

Today, we will be exploring our gaggle accounts.

I've set up and created a gaggle account for each one of you. Gaggle is a service to provide free, safe email for students.

You can sign in at www.gaggle.net

Your user name is your first name and first initial of your last name. You may also have a number at the end of your user name. I will be passing out your password.

It is highly secured by the gaggle staff and me, Mr. Uttech. Your safety is in our and in your best interest. You will also be expected to keep conversations school appropriate. I, and the gaggle staff, will be able to see your emails.

Some things you can do as you are exploring your account:
Assignment:

Read http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3965039

or

Read http://thenextweb.com/2009/08/31/woman-fired-caps-email/

Then, write two paragraphs explaining why it is important to be respectful on the Internet. How does being respectful on the Internet also translate into being respectful in real life? Also explain why things on the Internet might not be totally private.

Please email me these paragraphs using your new email address to duttech@gaggle.net or post them on the blog.

Objectives:

Discuss how social skills are helpful in obtaining and maintaining a job

Demonstrate work ethics

Demonstrate business etiquette

Review guidelines for effective written communication (letters, reports, email)
