High School Journalism

1. Find three high school online news websites. Do a google search for "high school newspapers" or click here for hsj.org.

2. Read articles and look at the pictures.

3. Compare and Contrast: In a Word document, list three things that are different than your website (listed below) and three things that are similar.

Photo Story Project



1. Choose a topic.
  • This could be something happening at Castro or in our community.
  • Once you choose a topic, stick with it. Remember our new rule: “Once you begin something, you must finish it.” So choose your topic wisely.
Some other possible ideas:
  • Write/edit a Public Service Announcement (PSA) from community resources
  • Write/edit a commercial
  • Write/edit an instructional video using a variety of sources
2. Draft an outline
  • Write out some ideas about your topic.
  • Write a story that will go with your photos.
3. Go out and take several pictures that will tell your story.

4. Work with your photos in iPhoto.
  • Crop, edit and more
5. Put your photos into a new iMovie project.
  • Put in proper transitions, beginning title and end credits
6. Finalize your story from Number 2. Make any changes now that you have your pictures.

7. Make a recording of your story in Garage band.

8. Combine the recording of your story with your pictures in iMovie.

Thursday Curent Events

Friday morning, Tiger woods took out a fire hydrant and crashed into a tree while driving his Cadillac SUV out of his driveway.

President Barack Obama is hoping Europe will muster 10,000 soldiers for his surge. Obama is going to send 30,000 in the next six months. He had his speech at the US Military Academy at West Point Tuesday night. The first waves of Marines are expected to arrive by Christmas, with the rest coming by summer.

GM Chairman Ed Whitacre became chief executive officer Tuesday and sent a message that more changes are ahead for the automaker that already has been through a government-backed bankruptcy this year. The decision came after Gm said that Fritz Henderson, named GEO in March when the Obama administration Ousted Rick Wagoner, resigned Tuesday.

The man who killed four officers was found after a two-day search, a Seattle officer found the alleged gunman near a disabled vehicle. This occurred in Seattle.
The body of one slain Lakewood officer is transferred to the Mountain View Funeral home. While the suspect in the deaths was killed yesterday, authorities said other people could be charged.

Democrat Bennie Thompson said that it could have been horror at the white house but instead the couple, the Salahis, just came in uninvited. They also hobnobbed with the President of the United States, threw arms around the Vice President, and sauntered into the spotlight.

5. The chief executive officer of what auto company stepped down unexpectedly this week? A veteran automobile marketer was named Tuesday to lead general motors Buick and GMC division.

6. After a two- day search, police in what state shot and killed a man suspected of killing four officers Sunday? They were shot in Parkway Washington inside a coffee shop.

7. The White House state dinner for the prime minister of India continues in the news this week because of what unique and perhaps troubling incident? A couple crashed the state dinner, the dinner was to honor India.
